Hello. This is Asuka.
We had last Keiko with Someya Sensei on October 20. He went back to Brazil on October 21.
This day was only Jigeiko. Of course, I went practice with Someya Sensei. I got very good advices. He told me that I should initiate the attacks using the legs, and not arms. Also, he [...] Last 2 weeks, Someya Sensei came to our Dojo and taught us the tip of hitting Men. He told us that you should pull up the left hand, in order to bring the tip of the Shinai down, to hit the opponent Men more precisely and sharply. Someya Sensei After practice, one of students in our [...] Someya Senpai (Kendo 7 Dan, Brazilian National Team Manager) came to our Dojo again last Thursday. He was travelling with his family to Grand Canyon, and came directly to our Dojo after his trip. We had a almost 3 hours long Keiko. At the end Someya Senpai and I had a Jigeiko. I though it was [...] Recently, I found this 5WKC program from 1982. My cousin from Brazil had this. Many people know that I represented Canada in the WKC (1988 – 2006), however not too many people know the fact that I participated from Brazil in the 5WKC (Goodwill matches). This 1982 5WKC program was the only program that I [...] Hello. This is Asuka. This week, we have many guest Kenshis coming our Dojo. Besides the boys from Japan, we have Someya Sensei from Brazil. He is Ariga Sensei’s Senpai when he practiced in Brazil in his childhood. He has 7 Dan and was the Brazil Delegation Manager in 14th World Kendo Championships, last month. I usually [...] Hello. This is Asuka. Today, we had two young Kenshis from Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The older brother is 15 years old and has Second Dan, and the younger brother is 12 years old and has Sho-Dan. Their father found our Dojo from our website and sent Ariga Sensei an e-mail last week. As they [...] Today, we had a Kendo Demonstration at the the Seal Beach Pier, for the Japanese Kite festival. Many of our BUTOKUDEN Dojo members came to help us. Thank you, Ryo, Riki, Ian, Cozo, Shion, Leon, Arata, Hiroyuki and Haruna! We had a lot of people watching us and it was a good turn out, but [...] Hello. This is Asuka. Today, two female Kenshis came to our Dojo from Soka University. So, last practice was a very big group, and we could for a group of females to do the drills.. Usually we can’t make female group, since there are only a few female in our Dojo, and they all don’t come [...] Hello. This is Asuka. It has been a week since I last practiced Kendo, because I traveled around Southern California. There were a fewer students than usual today. Since our Dojo is not so big, this number was actually ideal for our practice. Unfortunately, I found that my size 39 Shinai was broken just before practice. So [...] Hello, this is Asuka. Yesterday, it was hot and humid in Irvine. Practice is not so hard, but everybody sweat a lots. But we had a good practice. We usually practice for 2hours and have 3 parts like every Dojo does; 1 Basic Practice ,2 Waza Practice, 3 Ji-geiko. Ariga Sensei teaches us the tip for each [...] |
