Hello. This is Asuka.
This week, we have many guest Kenshis coming our Dojo. Besides the boys from Japan, we have Someya Sensei from Brazil. He is Ariga Sensei’s Senpai when he practiced in Brazil in his childhood. He has 7 Dan and was the Brazil Delegation Manager in 14th World Kendo Championships, last month.
I usually do not go to Kendo practice on Wednesdays, however, since it was a very good opportunity for me to practice with Someya Sensei, this week I went on Wednesday. At our BUTOKUDEN Dojo, Wednesday is a open practice day, and it is mostly Jigeiko, so many people from different Dojos come to this practice.
Someya Sensei taught us how to use the left hand to hit Men Buton, not Men Gane. He said that you should pull up the left hand, in order to bring the tip of the Shinai down, to hit the opponent Men more precisely and sharply.

After practice, we talked a little bit while drinking and eating. After practice, Beer is a perfect to drink, if you ignore the fact I of gaining weight… Someya Sensei told us his Kendo philosophy. He enjoys Kendo because he exchanges some feeling through his Shinai. I never thought I exchange the power or something with my opponent. I just tried to convey my Seme and failed. It is very interesting story for me. It is beyond my level.

Hi Asuka!
Thanks for sharing us your thoughts about Kendo, I had fun reading. It even had me laughing at some posts:
“After practice, Beer is a perfect to drink, if you ignore the fact I of gaining weight…”
How true! haha. I almost always get dragged by my friends to drink with them after practice. We get to talk about what worked for us during keiko, and things that we need to improve on. It’s been a big help for me, somehow
Isn’t it great how a bottle of beer brings us all together?
Anyways, keep on writing! You’d get better at it eventually = )
